OUR HISTORY WITH LEONBERGERS

Many years have passed when I met my first Leonberger, but I remember it like yesterday when at home, thinking about having a pure breed dog, when we lost in a short distance from each other, Max and Popi, our two   " fantasy dogs  " .

Max was a mix of German Shepherd and Spinone, and  Popi was a Terrier mix and who knows what, he was very similar to a Jack Russel but bigger...

So we began to go to the dog shows, just to see, and for geographical proximity, we arrived at the International Dog Show of Udine, in Italy.

Our ideal dog should have very specific characteristics: large, big, good, long hair, no slobbery.

So that day, continuing to turn into the halls and asking all exhibitors about the dogs that inspire us, at the end we where disappointed: perhaps our ideal dog was not real, maybe we wanted too much in just one dog ........

For one reason or another, there was always something that made us say NO at the end of the description.

Before leaving, we saw a huge dog, very hairy and beautiful, which was cuddled by everyone.

He had a peaceful and calm look.

It 'was love at first sight.

We stopped for  talking  with this gentleman and stayed there for almost an hour,always cuddling this great big and nice dog, our daughter Silvia was enchanted (Martina was not yet born).

We kept in touch  with that kind man who managed the puppies reservations list for Italy.

At that time were less than thirty Leonberger puppies born per year, but one day in December 1994, after 19 months of waiting, we finally got the phone call announcing the birth of the litter which included our reservation, and finally after a long long time, we got our dream dog.

 

It was a LEONBERGER !
